Oregon State junior guard Gary Payton II — the son of NBA legend Gary Payton — is returning to Corvallis for his senior year, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.

Last season, his first with the Beavers after transferring from Salt Lake Community College in Utah, Payton averaged 13.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
But, like his father, Payton II’s defense was his calling card, as he ranked second in the country with 3.1 steals per game.
The Beavers went 17-14 last season, falling to Colorado in their opening game of the Pac-12 Tournament.
