Thompson’s extension is a firm commitment to one of the best two-way guards in the NBA. Although he’s been the subject of some serious debate about his worth, especially when weighed against Love, Thompson’s extension isn’t much of a surprise after the Warriors decided to hold onto him this summer.
His contract will also help influence market value for several players, including the Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard, the Bulls’ Jimmy Butler and the Trail Blazers’ Wesley Matthews.
Thompson’s new deal will run through the end of the 2018-19 NBA season.
