As per the Wall Street Journal’s report, the Nintendo Switch Lite and Pro were to be made available following the Nintendo E3 2019 presentation in June. However, while a new report does echo the sentiment that Nintendo has two new Switch models in the works, it further indicates that this timeframe may no longer be accurate.

This report comes from the Japanese business journal Nikkei, as translated by USgamer, and it outlines two Nintendo Switch models: an “inexpensive version” and a “next-generation” model. Indeed, the “inexpensive” Nintendo Switch appears to be aligned with the smaller, more portable model described by the Wall Street Journal, and Nikkei states that the Nintendo Switch Lite release date will be in fall 2019.

Furthermore, Nikkei’s report has some new details about this “small bargain version” of the Nintendo Switch. Specifically, it is indicated that the Nintendo Switch Lite will be dockale for play on TVs, an idea that is counter to what much speculation has suggested up to this point.

With respect to the “next-generation” Nintendo Switch, Nikkei states that its release has been postponed due to current issues with software and power consumption. It is not explicitly stated that this model is what fans have been imagining as the souped up Nintendo Switch Pro, and it could potentially be the next generation of Nintendo’s hybrid console, but Nikkei’s report does give further credence to the claim that the company has a powerful Switch in progress.

What is also not clear is when this “next-generation” Nintendo Switch has been postponed from and to. That said, with the recent PlayStation 5 news, and the expectation of the announcement of a new Xbox soon, Nintendo may wish to try to expedite the process in order to not directly compete with Sony and Microsoft’s powerful, forthcoming consoles.
