The charges stem from comments made last month by the Jets owner, who discussed Revis (a former Jets player) during a news conference announcing the firing of coach Rex Ryan and GM John Idzik.
“I’d love for Darrelle to come back,” Johnson said.
The NFL’s tampering policy: “Any public or private statement of interest, qualified or unqualified, in another club’s player to that player’s agent or representative, or to a member of the news media, is a violation of the Anti-Tampering Policy.”
Revis’ contract includes an option for 2015 valued at $20 million. If the Patriots decline the option it would make Revis an unrestricted free agent, and the Jets could then speak of (and to) the corner whenever they wish.
