Stein reports that sources have said the Timberwolves are finalizing a buyout with guard J.J. Barea. Reports say Barea hopes to resign with the Mavericks after being waived.
The Timberwolves have to cut one player before Monday’s deadline and several names have been thrown around as a possibility, including Barea’s. If the reports are true, Barea would be the second player of the Mavericks’ 2011 championship team to return to Dallas recently, as Tyson Chandler was traded to the Mavericks in June.
Barea spent five seasons in Dallas before signing a free-agent contract with Minnesota in 2011.
