Summers would take over for recently departed Willie Fritz, who was named Tulane’s coach on Dec. 11.

Summers has 14 years’ experience coaching, though only one at CSU. Prior to that, he was Central Florida’s defensive coordinator from 2012-14, and spent the previous five seasons at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the last of which he served as defensive coordinator.

The Rams, which finished 2015 with a 7-5 record, ranked 64th in yards allowed per game (395) and 67th in points allowed per game (27.2).
